A pornographic application that mimics the popular Dubsmash has infected 500,000 users. This is the conclusion of a report Avast, company that provides the popular anti-virus with the same name. The threat has been removed from GooglePlay.
Avast! announced in its blog the discovery of mimicking Dubsmash, one of the most popular applications of the moment and that allows dubbing videos, with more than 10 million installations from Google Play.
Technicians Avast found that “Dubsmash 2″ (whose name the package was “com.table.hockes” on Google Play), it was not an improved version of the original app, but actually an application with a list of porn sites and that was installed between 100,000 and 500,000 times in the Google Play store. Technical contacted Google and this was removed.
After the application is installed, there was no-evidence that an app called “Dubsmash 2» were on the user’s machine. In its place appeared the icon for an app called “Setting IS”. This is a common trick of malware writers to make it harder for the user to find out which application is causing problems. And this should already be a warning to the user that something wrong is happening. The icon “Settings IS” resembles a lot with the “Settings” of Android.
The technical suspect that the creator of the app used the method of “click on pornography” to get financial benefits. In addition to being undesirable for the user, but basically harmless and less sophisticated than other families of malware as Fobus or Simplocker, this app shows that, despite the measures that are being taken, applications can trick users and seep in . Google Play store
If you installed Dubsmash 2 you can uninstall it by going to Settings & gt; Applications & gt; finding “Settings IS” and then uninstalling the feature
