The Perception Point, a security company has discovered a vulnerability in the Linux kernel that allows cybercriminals to gain access to millions of Android devices (which have version 4.4 or higher installed) and PCs and Linux servers.
The security company states that the vulnerability can affect 66% of all Android devices (there are more than 1.4 billion smartphones and tablets with this operating system globally) and tens of millions of PCs and Linux servers .
CVE-2016-0728 bug has been around for nearly three years – since the launch in 2013 of the Linux kernel version 3.8 – Perception Point and forwarded it to the team of programmers who maintain the kernel, reveals the Ars Technica .
