Security is an increasingly present issue in our day-to-day and concerns are increasing. This security is not limited to the protection of data centrally, but enough already to own physical safety and that blocks access to the equipment.
A new study has now revealed that even with these very present concerns, many users ignore the most basic principles of security. One in three Android users do not care about having a lock code on your devices.
The value displayed is representative of the lack of most basic security that may exist and that any user should use. The lock code is the simplest way that can be applied to protect user data and, importantly, to make use of the equipment encryption capabilities.
Compared to iPhone users, this is a high number. In the case of Apple’s only one equipment in 20 users have access to their equipment unlocked.
All this information results from a study of the company Duo, which focused on the business world, evaluating the equipment they have access to sensitive data within companies, many of the users themselves (BYOD).
But there are other interesting figures from the Android universe that result from this study. For example, one in 20 Android devices have made root, which is known to be one of the most popular attack vectors in the case of malware and viruses. In the case of iPhones is only 1 in 250 devices that have done jailbreak.
Added to this lack of security still is a problem that is associated with fragmentation. It is too high the number of devices that are still running outdated versions of Android.
There are 20% of Android devices running the evaluated version 5.1.1 of Android, have not yet upgraded to the latest version , 6.0.1.
They are also 32% the equipment you are running version 4. 0 or earlier of Android, which leaves these vulnerable equipment to problems with Stagefright and others, the result only of the lack of updates or security fixes.
This is a worrying scenario, which may partly be bound by the users through the implementation the most basic security measures, such as using a code or unlock pattern.
