WhatsApp wins in a video conference on Android – Globo.com

WhatsApp has gained an update that will bring video calls to the applications that run on the Android system. A pilot version of the program with the new function was released this Monday (24). With the improvement, the service instant chat Facebook will compete with the "Messenger", which also belongs to the social network, with Skype, of Microsoft, and with the Duo, from Google.

To use the feature, the user must install the version 2.16.318, directly from the website of WhatsApp via a program of testing of the application (see here). As the program is not downloaded from the Google Play, you must authorize that Android will allow your installation.

Before you start the video call, you need to still give a nod to what the app use the microphone and the camera of the mobile.

full operation of The new feature has some pitfalls. If the call recipient does not have the new version of the application, the connection will not be made. A notification will appear advising you that the action is not possible.

The video had already been released, also in character test, to Windows, Microsoft. Once cleared for testing, the update should not take to arrive at a definitive character for the rest of the users of Android, Windows, as well as the iOS of Apple.

Recently, WhatsApp has gained other updates, such as the sending of drawings and GIFs, in addition to include emojis, texts, and drawings on photos that are sent to contacts.

The video can reinforce the squabbles between WhatsApp and carriers, who have already complained of the app allow for phone calls. The argument is that the service Facebook uses phone numbers, are administered through the companies, to release the call, but not the ark with all regulatory requirements from the National Agency of Telecommunications (Anatel) that these companies have to bear.
