PCMark for Android comes up with 2 new tests and other news – Follow

The benchmark tests are always a good basis to evaluate and compare the performance of smartphones, tablets or computers, even though this comparison will eventually be a bit subjective.

Now the Futuremark releases a new update to PCMark for Android that includes two new benchmark tests based on the activity the actual of any user, while still allowing you to compare more easily the performance of the equipment in the different versions of Android. But there is more news.

To know the performance of a smartphone or of a tablet can not only look for the processor that integrates. A product of many other factors that will influence the way in which certain tasks will be performed.

from this reasoning, the app PCMark for Android commits to make an evaluation of the smartphone based on what are the daily activities of the users of the equipment, thus putting an end to the scores of performance and autonomy for better reflect what is the reality.

Work 2.0 – Test performance and autonomy

This new test is based on the common tasks of day-to-day, as you browse the Internet, edit videos, work documents or edit photos. The Work 2.0 turns out to be an improved version of the benchmark Work original.

He updates the Web browsing, writing, photo editing, and adds two new tests for video editing, and manipulation of data and provides results for the performance and the life time of the battery.

This Work 2.0 is available for the latest versions of Android and the tests are not comparable with the results of the benchmark Work, the original (which is still available for the older versions).

Computer Vision

This benchmark test qualifies the performance of the device for a variety of tasks of image recognition through a number of libraries of open source more popular.

The TensorFlow is an open source library developed by Google. The test uses a neural network pre-trained to recognize different objects in a set of images. The ZXing, commonly known as Zebra Crossing, is a library of image processing barcode multi-format. The test uses the XZing to read a set of bar codes and QR codes.

Already the Tesseract is a library of optical character recognition open source. The test recognizes and extracts text in English from a collection of images.

performance Comparison between different Android versions

it Is certain that the different versions of operating systems change the performance of an equipment, for good or for evil, depending on the hardware and optimization of software of each of the equipment.

With this new version of PCMark for Android will be possible to realize, based on the tasks performed in the day-to-day, what will be the impact of an update. In some versions you can even improve significantly and be worth the update, even though other until there can be a loss of performance.
