About 950 million Android vulnerable to attacks by MMS … – SAPO Tek

Almost 950 million mobile devices with the Android operating system have a security flaw that allows hackers attack with a simple multimedia message (MMS). The attack comes disguised as a video, but after running the cracker ensures almost full access to the device.

The Stagefright call failure was discovered by members of Zimperium Mobile Security company. Despite the large number of devices that are exposed, are devices that have versions prior to Android Jelly Bean who are more prone to attacks, writes The Verge.

A the serious aspects of vulnerability is that the user does not even need to see the video to be infected. After running the infection, the cybercriminal can gain access to the microphone, the camera and the other nuclear smartphone features.

According to the international press Google has patched the vulnerability, having spent the patch to partner manufacturers. It now remains that every business does its part in the upgrade process, “pushing” the update to the brand devices. And in most cases the updates have yet to be validated by telecommunications operators.

The researchers Zimperium Mobile Security does not publicly reveal all of the data failure found in Android and requires a wider dissemination at the Black Hat conference.
