Portana: the Cortana also can now be used on Android? – Pplware

The personal assistants are coming to mobile devices in force. Occupy a space that was not assigned and that users understand now that had to be fulfilled.

From what we have seen so far each operating system has its specific wizard and is limited to work on it, not the opening to other platforms.

There are always those who try to explore alternatives for the crossing, with some degree of success. The latest attempt showed Cortana to run on Android.

Attempts to bring other operating systems personal assistants of other companies have always had a relative success, with concepts implemented and working, but end up not evolve and become viable alternatives.

Several experiments were showing the possibility of using these tools in competing operating systems, but eventually fall by the wayside.

The latest attempt, which was called Portana emerged once again as a proof of concept, which goes to show that Cortana can be used on any operating system, and in particular on Android.

It follows from two programmers work, Marco Bartoli and Lorenzo Santina, which make up the OrangeSec Team, and was presented in 2015 Droidcon conference recently held in Italy.

The work presented by OrangeSec Team uses a proxy to intercept requests, which are then sent to Microsoft.

At this time the Portana, whose name stems from “porting” a “Cortana, can be seen to work and to answer questions the same way as it does in Windows Phone, but an Android application that replicates in all Windows Phone version of behavior.

To create the Portana the OrangeSec Team used a software that created the CortanaProxy , and establishing a bridge between devices and Microsoft servers . Used even small DNS changes to achieve “kidnap” the requests made Portana.

Although a fully functional version, Portana has some problem, well identified limitations. First requires a permanent Internet connection. Second, and fruit have been developed by the OrangeSec Team, only understands Italian.

It is not expected for the near future a public version of Portana, but it has proved not impossible to use other systems than the original Cortana.

With Microsoft’s willingness to bring your personal assistant for other platforms will be much more logical that the company to make this transposition and to give you the necessary support.

For now is the idea and proof that the Cortana can be used on any system. This is nothing new in this field and before that Siri had been used in a similar way, having been given extra features.
