Virus for Android took advantage of other scams ... - TeK.sapo

The Android operating system was the “ground” chosen by a group of hackers to test a new form of virus: a Trojan that uses other scams to spread. That exploited vulnerabilities in the operating system of Google were corrected in version 4.3.

Through other cybercriminal botnets – a network of infected computers that communicate with each other to perform tasks such as sending emails with spam – the Obad.a spread on smartphones and tablets.

Security firm Kaspersky claims that this is the first time a mobile software adopts this strategy “multichannel” to infect users. Researchers from the Russian company analyzed the behavior of Obad.a for three months and say that this way of acting is so far only on mobile devices.

The virus attacked mainly in Eastern Europe, as Ukraine, Belarus and Uzbekistan, noting Russia 83% of cases detected. It is unclear in Portugal there was a victim.

The Obad.a spread in first grade through SMS, which sent a link for users to access – if access was done was installed the trojan on your phone. Then all contacts of newly infected as Kaspersky writes in a statement, received the same message.

In another system, a network used to send a spam email message that was trying to collect debts nonexistent users. The trojan also propagated by application stores for Android unofficial.

In three months the researchers found 12 versions of Obad.a, situation s that were reported to Google. The technological Mountain View corrected all exploited vulnerabilities in Android 4.3, a version with an adoption fee still much residual.

Recently security company Eset also sensed a scam that used to spread spam. In the case of Hesperbot dozens of national users were affected by this virus which aimed to steal credentials to access online banking services.
