In early August, Google launched Android Device Manager, a service that allows tracking lost phones and taking emergency actions like deleting all sensitive data from the device and the user would not want that third parties had access.

Now, the service has been updated with two new features which allow less drastic solutions to the situation: remote lock your smartphone or tablet using a numeric password (PIN) and the possibility to change this PIN online.

If the device owner has already configured for facial recognition unlocking method or another, Android Device Manager will endorse this configuration with the new password configured online. Also, when setting the new PIN, the screen of the gadget is lost or stolen immediately deletes the request and passes the new password to be unlocked.

smartphone or tablet must be connected to the Internet to receive this command, either via WiFi or 3G/4G. However, if the device is disconnected during the password change by Android Device Manager, the configuration becomes effective as soon as it comes online.
