As you may have read here in Tecmundo, the head of design of Windows Phone, Joe Belfiore, said Nokia was hiding some important information from Microsoft. And apparently, it happened as a kind of plan B in case the partnership between the companies do not work.
Among the statements Belfiore was the fact that Nokia seemed to be developing a device secret. Now, an article in the New York Times seems to have revealed that the device was “mysterious”. According to what was reported, was testing a Nokia smartphone Lumia working with the Android system.
Information was transferred by people close to the project, and it was conducted “well before” the negotiations that culminated in the purchase of the division of the Finnish company by company Windows – it seems that the smartphone was being tested in a space of time that can go from 2012 until the beginning of 2013.
Although Nokia’s own project, at a time when negotiations began, Microsoft knew of the existence of the device. Apparently, this point was not decisive for the purchase happen, but the threat that Windows Phone lost territory achieved so far has been really taken into account – taking into account the agreement between the two organizations, it could happen in end of 2014.
Despite all this information, there is no hard data on how much Nokia invested in designing a smartphone running Android or the seriousness of these tests. However, it is interesting to think that we could have a family Lumia available in the market with another operating system, is not it?
