BlackBerry suspends applications for iPhone and Android - Público.pt

Nothing goes right to the BlackBerry. This weekend, the disgraced Canadian manufacturer had problems at launch messaging service BlackBerry Messenger for rival platforms.

To attract users to their services, the BlackBerry had decided to provide an application BlackBerry Messenger (feature much appreciated by users of branded handsets) for iPhone and Android. However, according to a note on the company blog, before the official release for Android, which has not yet come to pass, was posted on the Internet a version not completed the application for this system, it was eventually discharged 1.1 million times in just eight hours, causing problems (the company ensures that the service continued to work for other users).

BlackBerry now suspended the process of providing applications for both platforms and not said a deadline to have the problem resolved, saying only that. Who has already downloaded the BlackBerry Messenger for iPhone – it was an official release, available only in some countries – may continue to use it. Already the unofficial version of the Android app will be disabled.

BlackBerry saw the popularity of its mobile phones dropped for a tiny slice of the global market. On Friday, and having already said he was available to be purchased, announced it would lay off about 4,500 employees, a little more than a third of the workforce. On that day, also said that it must communicate, the next presentation of results, quarterly losses between 700 and 735 million euros.
