available MaruOS: Android in the smartphone and Debian Desktop – Pplware

Last February we present here a fantastic project, MaruOS whose goal is to have Android in the smartphone and Debian on the Desktop. Now, after about four months, was made publicly available Maru v0.2.3 and who have a Nexus 5 already can experience.

Let’s see what’s new in this version.

With the market for PCs breaking and smartphones wanting to take the place of these, it is necessary that mobile devices start to offer features that until now were exclusive to PCs. Aligned this concept, the MaruOS project offers Android in the smartphone and the Debian Linux on the Desktop.

In practice the user has a mobile device with Android, but if you connect a mouse, keyboard or monitor this switch to Desktop mode and the system switches to Linux Debian.

With MaruOS if you are using your device as a smartphone then has the OS Android, but moving to the Desktop mode now has a Linux Debian.

what can we do with MaruOS?

  • Learn to program with Scratch
  • Replace your PC the smartphone
  • Record, edit and publish videos using OpenShot
  • Create and edit images using GIMP and Inkscape
  • Create 3D models using Blender
  • … and more.

If you have a Nexus 5 then you can try this project which seems to me fantastic, following the concept of convergence that has been working for Canonical and also giant Microsoft.
