Android can win ‘death’ button that disables apparatus … – Tecmundo

It is a sadness and concern endless when you have a tablet or lost or stolen smartphone. In addition to the financial loss, personal information, address book and perhaps even important passwords are in the hands of strangers. In the case of Android, you can even use Android Device Manager to locate your phone, make it ring, lock it or even erase some information, but the service is not perfect, and some data may continue there.

Google understands this and is developing a definitive mechanism of self-destruction – could even “bricked” the device. For those unfamiliar with the term, it comes from “brick” (brick, in English) and means leave the device as unusable as a piece of pottery.

The key to the new mechanism would completely erase any device partition, including data recovery, system restart and the bootloader itself.

well aware Users identified new to the Android Open Source Project code, which means that it can get in future Android updates. But the manufacturers launch devices have the power to limit this “death button” including choosing who can activate it when it can happen and the maximum level of device destruction.

As a “bricked” the device is a really extreme measure and can lead you to regret having done so – to find a forgotten device, for example – it is possible that the command reaches the common user mildest form, erasing more data than currently and in fact preventing the use by third parties but being “soft” in some way.
