“Virus” in application infects millions of Android gaming devices – Daily News – Lisbon

The store Google Play suspended the sale of some infected with applications adware that made these showed ads popup malicious on mobile devices. The computer security company Avast disclosed the problem in a blog post.

When installing applications as Durak, a card game that has been downloaded five million times, they seem to work normally. Filip Chytry of Avast, analyst software malicious mobile as smartphones and tablets , experienced these applications and ascertained that often the malicious software took seven to thirty days to manifest.

The infection is noted when it unlocks the device , when display ads talking about problems ( that do not exist) that, they say, can only be solved by following the instructions. When users follow the link to install the software to solve the device problems, are redirected to pages of rogue applications, such as “applications that attempt to try to send SMS premium without permission or applications that simply collect too much personal information without offering anything in return, “says Chytry, who took aware of the problem thanks to a publication in the Avast forum.

Applications withdrawn by Google Play include the game Durak letters, and some applications in Russian including an IQ test and a quiz of history.

The computer security expert Stephen Murdoch, University College London, told the BBC one thing that people should do to avoid being affected by these malicious applications is to read the reviews published in the store Google Play or the App Store. In the case of Durak application, for example, there were criticisms from November 2013 where Android users said suspect that this gave rise pop-up ads. In the end, however, “users of mobile devices have to rely on the operating system vendor, either Google or Apple, to protect the” , Murdoch concluded.
