We tested the Aviate, the Android app adapting to their needs - Tecmundo

In June last year, received a welcome novelty in Android: Google Now This feature came to add intelligence to the system, ensuring automatic information according to your daily activities.

The main idea is to anticipate what the user needs, offering cards with useful details about the weather, travel and many others. Now Google was well received, but it may not be as accessible and simple for everyone.

If you spend a few hours researching on Google Play hard, you hardly find something to replace the Now, but there is one app in particular that can be very useful and practical: the Aviate. This software is not as smart (and intrusive) to point out which is your favorite team, nor can identify their main destinations.

Despite some similarities, the proposed Aviate is somewhat different. In fact, the Aviate is a launcher that works to facilitate your daily routine with the constant change of your desktop. This app creates spaces with various options that work intelligently and adapt according to your daily activities.

The program identifies when you are at work and offers the apps you need most in this environment. In your home, it changes for the items you do not waste time browsing the menu and on the desktop. Great, no? The Aviate is in Beta stage for guests, but of course we got a key to bring to you our first impressions.

A Different Experience

The first shock is the change in the work area. When installing the app, you lose the background image and navigation standard. The main screen of Aviate is divided into two sections: Home (with their programs, widgets and an image of your choice) and intelligent field (with apps, widgets and features that are useful during the day).

use Aviate, you also no longer have access to the Android app menu, but all are available in a separate screen. The addition of more widgets does not happen in the same way, but it is usually possible to use all of them. The top bar, lock screen, settings, and other Android features remain intact.

differential program is in use during daily life. When visiting a restaurant, for example, the Aviate pulled the last comments that people made about the site. Moreover, he changed the main buttons for: Photo, Post and check-in (the latter requires Foursquare).

pass midnight, the Aviate modifies the space, adding the alarm button and an icon for you to put the device in silent mode. This constant change in the work area is surprising, but can be awkward to those accustomed to the old way of using Android.

When the program does not run automatically (or if you are without internet connection), to slide the screen to the left, there are items that give access to spaces available: Home, Work, Going Somewhere and Settings. The remaining spaces (nocturnal, restaurant) only work in automatic mode.

Collections and applications

slide to the right, we find the screen collections. In this space, there are several apps separated by categories: social networking, games, work, music, news, cooking, finance, entertainment, health, morning routine, restaurants, settings and a multitude of other genres. You define which should appear and choose the top apps in each category.

Aviate shows a maximum of 5 items per line, but when a category has more apps, you can click on the arrow down (top right) to expand the list of programs. You can organize this panel the way you want by placing, for example, the category of games or social networks on top.

In all categories, there is an icon with the plus sign. By clicking this button, the Aviate will indicate some interesting app (which is not installed on your machine) for you to improve your software collection. The program builds upon data from other users to indicate which are most commonly used – which can increase the chance of finding something useful.

From the collections screen, sliding it once more to the right, you will find a list of the applications that are installed on your smartphone. The Aviate arranges items alphabetically. By keeping an item pressed, you can drag it to the collections for the favorites (at home) or the list of apps space.

Some drawbacks

One thing that might bother the most demanding users is the lack of customization. Yes, you can drag icons from one side to another (like Android), but there are no options to remove specific fields of each space or change the functionality of the buttons.

Anyway, this issue has been well understood by developers. The idea of ??this launcher is not offering full customization. The great thing here is to offer a different experience and intelligent.

The biggest drawback of this software is the battery consumption. Because it is an app that requires GPS and Internet (either via 3G, 4G or WiFi) to use the smart features, the energy of the cell ends up running out with ease. If you like to play or use multiple applications simultaneously, perhaps Aviate end up being a problem.

One issue pointed out by Android Central respect to invasion of privacy. During the first days of life, some users pointed out that the Aviate was spying cell phone data. However, the app only collects data that have been authorized to install (there are a number of permissions you need to give before the app is added to your Android).

Although not spy, the Aviate was being sloppy, allowing anyone to have access to information via a simple web query. Fortunately, this problem has been fixed and there is no way to find the data collected.

Great potential

For now, the Aviate is not yet available to everyone and does not have translation into Portuguese. Either way, all features had good results and have not had many problems with bugs (except once or twice when the app restarted).

During our checks, we use a Google Nexus 4 to experience the features of Aviate. The application takes up little RAM (usually, it uses less than 50 MB) and not too much work to the processor. The transitions between screen space and are very quick and personalized presents no problems.

Although still under development, we can say that Aviate has potential. It does not replace the functions of Google Now – incidentally, you can access the Now as you have always done – but has good resources to add users to follow a routine that requires multiple apps. The idea of ??this program is brilliant and he has a future!
