The Android store is comprised of millions of software that are distinct from each other, but there are thousands of concepts that eventually multiply in different versions and locations. This is the case of applications with public transport schedules.
This time a team of two Portuguese decided to add an extra element which is useful: the schedules are available offline, with no need for connection to networks Wi-Fi or data plan for the query. This factor has two advantages at once: not obliged to run a mobile Internet consumption and saves battery at the network access deplete faster.
The software is the responsibility of a Computer Engineering student, Ricardo Roach, and a student of Multimedia Art, Teresa Freitas. With Public Transport two young also want to avoid the inconvenience that is to consult a timetable PDF on devices whose screens do not always help in the task.
Developed for less than one year, available on Google Play for about four months and more than a thousand downloads recorded, the two students aspire for more. “Our idea was to create a platform where they will be all public transport services available in Portugal in a simple, rapid, offline, free and without advertising,” explained Teresa Freitas to TeK.At the moment the application is designed especially for users train as transportation. As citizens who use the lines of Aveiro, Braga, Caíde, Cascais, Sintra and Guimarães eg. The paths of South Metro Transport and travel the Soflusa Transtejo and are also guaranteed.
Available for free for Android – and another in Portuguese and English – no longer plans to port the Public Transport for iOS, Windows Phone and BlackBerry. “Depending on the outcome, we will see whether it is justified to include other mobile platforms”, clarified the student media.
