ESET publishes the report ‘The Rise of Android ransomware’ – PCGuia

ESET released its report ‘The Rise of Android ransomware’ accompanying the development, trends and ransomware features. Whether through its encryption capabilities, the blocking capabilities PIN, or simply the ability to lock the screen, the ransomware increasingly threatens the users of mobile devices.

According to ESET report blockers screen and encriptadores files, both at the origin of significant financial losses and data, are now in force in the Android platform.

like other forms of malware for Android, such as Trojans that they arrive by SMS, based threats ransomware have been evolving over the past few years. Both the Windows and Android, screen blockers are posing as government officials or security forces, launched accusations about the victims and carry them to pay a ransom.

If at first these threats were easy to solve and after removal of the same computer or mobile devices passed to be immediately accessible, now we are faced with a different scenario.

today’s threats encrypt the data and this means that all information contained in the device is no longer accessible, even after the threats are removed. In practice, users in a matter of seconds lost photos, videos, documents and many other files.

ESET report also addresses the issue of internationalization of the threats, and the focus of the invaders no longer only countries of Eastern Europe. More specifically, have been detected various forms of ramsomware like Android / Simplocker and Android / Lockerpin in the United States.

“For users of Android devices is important to be aware of ransomware threats, take measures preventive and have a security solution installed, “he said about Robert Lipovsky, researcher at ESET.
