Google releases Chrome finally safe navigation on Android – Tudocelular.com

The technology of Google Safe Browsing is now enabled by default in Android to protect mobile users of Chrome when accessing phishing sites and web pages that harbor malware.

So far, safe navigation was only available for desktop users as well as for Chrome members in Android that Google turned up at the optional data compression service. In fact, for mobile users, this option has been available for two years, but had been disabled by default.

So why did it take so long for Google to enable this feature to all its users on Android? According to the company, it is very difficult to maintain a long list of potentially harmful sites on a mobile device than on the desktop. With data compression service, all your web traffic without encryption is routed through Google’s servers, where the company can then easily check URLs against a blacklist. In the cell, it is not that easy.

“Bytes are great: our mantra is that every bit of safe navigation of that is sent from a mobile device should improve protection”, informed members of Google’s navigation safety team announcement today. “Network bandwidth and battery are the most scarce resources in a mobile device, so we had to carefully rethink how best to protect mobile users. Some social engineering attacks occur only in certain parts of the world, therefore, decided to activate the feature only in the most critical regions, so far. “

The Google engineers reported that several changes made to the Chrome code allowed it to be possible to leave the always-on feature in Android without compromising the phone’s battery, as it will not be made an intensive use of the processor and not an excessive memory consumption.

With this update, Google announced that the company is extending this protection to “hundreds of millions of Chrome users on mobile devices” (for a total of more than 800 million users mobile Android, but that number also includes iOS users).

If you’re a Chrome user on Android, chances are you already use secure browsing. Google allowed it to its latest update of Google Play Services. Chrome began silently to enable new in version 46 (thanks to rapid cadence of the Google updates the browser is already now in version 47). To check if your browser is enabled with the security mode, check under Settings & gt; Privacy menu in Chrome on Android. Remember that the security control is done by Play Services, which allows other browsers also take advantage of novelty.
