We tested the Android Auto, new connectivity system between … – Four Wheels

According to research released by Google itself, 28% of car accidents involve distraction with smartphones. The same study also points out that the integration of media center with the mobile phone is an attribute that is already taken more into account than the engine power in choosing a car.

Following the logic of these statistics, the company created the Android Auto, which takes the functions of Android phones to the central mutimídia cars. The system was already available on some models, but the official launch took place on Wednesday (23) at the headquarters of Google Brazil, in São Paulo.

Among the models that already have the technology are the Honda Accord, Chevrolet Cobalt and the entire Volkswagen line. Ford, Suzuki, Fiat, Hyundai and Mitsubishi are launching compatible platforms later this year. For those who want to install on their own, Pioneer sells a radio with the system, the AVIC F70TV, for salty R $ 2,799.

To use the technology you need to download the application and connect the phone in the car via USB cable or Bluetooth. Most commands are done by voice and interactions with others are eliminated to avoid distractions. For this reason, Facebook is not available. Whatsapp already escaped this limitation. – And works well, as you can see in the video below

The expected compatibility with Waze has not got off the ground – for now only Google Maps can be used as a browser. According to Google, Waze (which also belongs to the company) should be available soon. “We know the importance of Waze for the Brazilian public, but we are trying to facilitate interaction with other users with proper security,” says Flavio Ferreira, partnership director for Google Android.

The user also has a concierge service with Google Now feature that answers questions like: “Will it rain tomorrow?” Or “What the dollar?” And “What are the nearest restaurants

?
The big rival is the Apple CarPlay released in Brazil since last year. It has mirroring functionality similar to Android Auto, but only has the iOS system GPS navigation, technically inferior to the functionality of navigation apps like Waze or Google Maps.
