5 obscure news from Android N that is worth knowing – Tecmundo

Google officially announced the Android N and has released the trial version and developers. We already have our first impressions of the mobile operating system and even listed a number of functions that did not exist in the previous, Android Marshmallow.

However, some of the new features are not disclosed so advertising by Google not to have shocked directly the consumer or not have immediate action, only when Android N actually go out to more devices. They make changes behind the scenes and are more useful for developers, but will bring general improvements. Then you know some of them, discovered and listed by Arstechnica site.

1. API for shortcuts in the notifications

One of the novelties of the Android notification bar N is the possibility of you further customize which icons will be available as a button. But what Google just quoted is that it will provide the API that function -. And third-party developers will be able to create similar shortcuts to your apps

2. VPN connected always

Virtual Private Networks (VPN) are not new in Android, but Android N now has an option for you to let them always active. Thus, a specific app will always work through them, and not your default connection. Both users and administrators should be able to set this up, that can be an additional security measure if you are in a WiFi not so reliable as well.

3. Data Economy

The “Date Saver” allows network users to consume less bandwidth by restricting various services – ideal for when your 3G plan is small and you need it throughout the day, but want go online. Are reduced to background activity, the image size and quality of streams, for example. individual apps that are free to use how much bandwidth they want can be listed by the user.

4. OpenGL ES 3.2

Android N finally has the official support for OpenGL ES 3.2, the latest possible graphics API for the platform. The news is good and there are benefits, but it does not bring many novelties as it sounds:. OpenGL ES 3.1 and Android Extensions Pack, equivalent to version 3.2, they were already in play from the Android Lollipop

But the biggest mystery concerns the open source APIs Vulkan, Google’s rival for DirectX 12 and Metal Apple. The technology has been confirmed, but is not listed anywhere in the version of the code for Android tests N. Will we have a surprise?

5. JIT compilation

Android N will have a compilation of just-in-time code (JIT) which replaces the ahead-of-time method (AOT). This version will accelerate processes that were slower. Basically, what more will impact the user is accelerating the waiting time for installing applications or updates. But the AOT system qualities will be maintained and you can choose which build to use depending on what makes the most sense for each application. The AOT, for example, is most effective when the device is idle or being charged.
