Google wants to continue to invest in the Android ecosystem in Portugal – SAPO Tek

This is the first time that Google done this meeting in Portugal and the goal is clear: to show the best on the mobile platform and give the stage to companies that develop applications and partners. But, by the middle, there was also space to talk about the impact of Android in the european economy, and Portugal, and the support to entrepreneurship and startups.

Perhaps because it is the first edition, there were so many companies showing Android apps on the mini exhibition mounted at the LX Factory on the 29th of November. Less than half a dozen, with the HONEY, Mimicry Games, Think Pink, MeshApp and the Block to mark your place with a mini-stand and statements, participating in the various discussions organized during the morning.

The position of Android as an engine of growth in Europe and Portugal was defended by Nicklas-Lundblad. The vice president of public policy and Government relations at Google EMEA shared several numbers relating to the history of the operating system that was released in 2007 and that "democratized the access to technology". "Today there are more than 24 thousand pieces of equipment more than 1,300 brands with the Android operating system," he said.

In terms of employment, Google argues that the platform has already created more than 1.3 million jobs "to the back of the Android," and that in Portugal the number exceeds 22 thousand jobs, as explained to TeK Benoit Tabaka, the team of Policy Strategy for Google EMEA.

The "positive effect" is added in the 9 years of existence of the Android and involves several areas, from the developers, marketing, and other jobs related to the ecosystem that the open operating system created, and that extends to manufacturers as the BQ, for example.

"we Invested a lot in Europe and we have made strong investments in various countries, such as France, Germany and the United Kingdom," explained Benoit Tabaka in an interview with the TeK, referring also to the investment in Campus incubation facilities in Madrid. Questioned by the TeK, Benoit Tabaka he also referred to a positive dynamic that Porugal is the show in terms of development of sartups and innovation in this area, especially in the area of fintech, one of the reasons that motivated the organization of the first Android Innovation Day.
