WhatsApp releases video calling for Android and iPhone – Estadão

Application is used by 1 billion people around the globe

WhatsApp has released this Monday, 14, a new feature called in video. In test since the end of October, the function is already available for devices with operating systems Android, iOS and also for Windows Phone.

According to the office of WhatsApp in Brazil, the update may take a few days to reach all the brazilian users.

To use the video calls, the system will be quite similar to the currently used with voice calls. To start a call, simply access the on-screen messages with your specific contact and click the phone symbol in the sequence, a menu will open asking for the user to choose between voice call or video. The system is similar to Skype and the Duo, from Google.

Used by more than 1 billion people, WhatsApp had already begun to conduct tests of the video at the beginning of the year, but during a short space of time.

The app, which was sold to Facebook for$ 22 billion, is betting on diversifying the means of communication between its users. For the brazilians, a factor that may be detrimental to the use of the video feature is the quality of the mobile internet in the country.

WhatsApp has already done, in the past few months, other updates to enhance the experience of its users. In addition to allowing people to draw on your pictures, like in Snapchat, the app can also be used by companies in contact with their customers.
