Google is in an open war with the European Union. The accusation of monopoly on Android, with the laying on of applications to users is real and must soon arise the results of the investigation.
But a new study emerged recently comes to give reason to Google and to show that, after all, their applications are not the most used and the majority of users prefer smartphones with pre-installed applications.
This is a study that will appeal particularly to Google for several reasons. The first of it because it shows that, contrary to what the European Commission argues, users are not tied to their applications and are looking for alternatives. On the other hand, shows that users want smartphones ready to use as soon as they are connected for the first time, and with the main applications already installed.
The numbers that the Application Developers Alliance has obtained in the 4000 interviews with Android users, made in Germany, France, Spain and Italy, are unanimous and show a reality that is well defined. 70% of these users would prefer to have the applications already installed, without forcing the access to the Play Store of Android and looking for applications.
on the other hand there are 2 important values that arise from this study. The first is in the fact that the majority of these users do not change their displays, keeping the applications and shortcuts as they are shipped from the factory, with the accesses of the same way. This shows that the options that the manufacturers make the applications appear to be correct.
on the other hand, and this is all the more important for Google, it also shows that the choices for the different services do not fall in the options of Google. The choices are the Amazon shopping, Spotify for music, WhatsApp for messaging, Kindle for reading, and Skype for calls.
There are, however, some obvious and which hang down to the side of Google. We talk about YouTube for the video streaming, Gmail for email, Drive to the storage Cloud and the Google Search for the search of flights.
Despite being a study that shows a reality interesting, it needs to be properly filtered. Google has an interest in the results, and helped the Application Developers Alliance in its execution.
The initial question was made in order to lead the users to respond positively to the desire to have the pre-installed applications.
If you were to buy or receive a new Android device, would you prefer it to come with basic apps so it works out of the box?
of Course, nobody wants a smartphone filled with bloatware, and, for this, the minimum application should be installed, keeping only the really essential ones, which by rule is limited to Google.
