Check Point Software Technologies Ltd. reports that the last five months its researchers had unprecedented access to internal processes Yingmob, Chinese cybercriminals group that is behind the creation of HummingBad malware.

This malware, discovered by Check Point establishes a persistent rootkit on Android devices, generating fraudulent advertising revenue and installing dangerous apps.

Yingmob works as a Chinese analyst firm, which operates within the law, and sharing their resources and their technology. Has 25 employees, divided by four independent groups, all responsible for creating malicious components for HummingBad.

Yingmob using HummingBad to control 85 million devices around the world, generating advertising revenue fraudulent $ 300,000 per month. This constant flow of money, along with a focused organizational structure, it is proof of how easy it is for cybercriminals to be economically self-sufficient.

Thanks to this independence, Yingmob and similar groups may devote themselves to improving their ability to raise malware campaigns to a new level, a trend that, according to researchers from Check Point, will be increasingly common.

for example, these groups can gather resources to create powerful botnets, create databases of devices to launch attacks on relevant targets, or develop new sources of revenue by selling access to mobile devices at the best value.

millions of Android devices that are not able to detect and detain suspicious behavior, and all the data they contain, are in constant danger.
