Intel moves away from Android and directs partnership with Google for IoT – Computerworld

The Android has been a big part of Intel’s plans for mobile devices, but the company has been paying less and less attention on the Google operating system.

the manufacturer is moving away from the development of x86 processors used in Android smartphones since it came out of the mobile device market. Their commitment to the development of components for Android tablets is also at risk.

Nevertheless, the company still has a strong partnership with the search giant. “We continue to work with Google on their system support for different product lines, including Chromebooks, tablets and devices IoT,” she said an Intel spokesman.

but the manufacturer declined to comment specifically on the level of commitment to Android for tablets, a market that has seen dwindling sales.

Meanwhile, Intel Android tablets upgrades them are getting scarce, suggesting that the company is not as focused on the segment as ever been.

Dell, for example, does not release system upgrades to the now discontinued Venue tablets. that use Intel Atom chips. And as Dell, Intel is shifting its focus from tablets to computers “2 in 1″, most of which use Windows.

But it is not clear whether Intel will continue providing Android as an option along with its Celeron, Pentium and Core processors.

the x86 version of Intel’s Android was mainly for devices with Atom processors being removed from tablets and PCs by the company in favor of new chips, codenamed Apollo Lake. These new systems will run Windows Apollo Lake. – Is not yet sure if also supported for Android
