Victory for Android! Google wins Oracle the right to use Java – Tudocelular.com

For some time that Google and Oracle have been facing off in court for the right to use Java in Android. Oracle had been seeking legal compensation from Google for the use of its APIs. It required a $ 9.3 billion compensation (R $ 33.31 billion in a direct conversion), value for breach of copyright of 37 APIs used in Android. And finally, on Thursday (26), an American jury ruled in favor of Google, claiming that the use of Oracle’s APIs in Android does not hurt the code use rights.

Google was already taking measures to prevent Oracle with Android N, which will trade for Java OpenJDK. While the final version of Android N is not released, Google has yet to adjudicate the right to use Java. Google claimed that uses the APIs 37 challenged by Oracle “fairly”, changing them in a way that can not be considered copies. And even if it were the case, Java is free to use in the final analysis, although its use by companies enter into a zone of dispute. Of course, Oracle did not agree, since it is of interest to receive compensation completely out of reality through the use of technology, which originally belonged to Sun Microsystems, which was acquired by it.

the trial was closely followed by software developers, who feared a victory for Oracle that could encourage more copyright lawsuits software. However, investors saw little risk to Google. Shares of Oracle and Alphabet, of which Google is a member, did not show significant variations after the verdict. This dispute was yielding from 2014 but seems to have finally come to an end.

Under the law of the US copyright “fair use” allows limited use of materials without acquiring permission from the rights holder for purposes of research. The new trial, which lasted about two weeks, had the testimony of high-profile executives, including the CEO of Alphabet, Eric Schmidt, chief executive, Larry Page, and co-CEO of Oracle, Safra Catz.

of course, this victory does not change the fact that Google will continue to invest in OpenJDK for Android, which will bring more benefits in addition to preventing future cases of Oracle. Among the new features we can expect faster and more responsive applications that run always stable without delay in view. This would allow seeing games and other app running at 120 frames per second in the smartphone screen, while the current standard is 60 Hz – of course, for this would need to have smartphones with screen with 120Hz refresh rate, something that we do not see the market.
