Protection Factory Reset is easy to get around on Android – Pplware

Security in Android has always been a touchy subject and recurrently is put to the test with new ways to work around. Google tries by all means secure your system with new features and new policies.

A new flaw comes down to the ground one of the latest security measures. The blockade of the factory facelifts can be bypassed on the Android Marshmallow without any special measure.

the protection Factory Reset provides users with an Android device can only be used again when the account that was being used before it is authenticated. This measure can prevent misuse in case of theft or loss.

This measure was initially optional and was available in some of the top equipment, became mandatory with the arrival of version 6.1 of Android .

But it is now known that after all this protection is not valid and within minutes any user can get around it, using only a WiFi network and a simple application. The proof is in the video below, wherein a Nexus 6P is reset with use of an account that was not associated with the equipment.

Despite being performed in a Nexus 6P, it can also be used in any other smartphone this family or probably even another Android smartphone that is running version 6.1 of Android.

the worst of this is that it had already been reported to Google and yet still present. The version of Android used had the latest applied security update, having been launched in May.

This is another flaw that Google has to fix quickly, so users and their equipment back to be safe. Remains is whether and when it will be applied to equipment outside the Nexus range.
