Android: detected security flaw in reading systems … – Observer

IT Experts warn of a serious security flaw in fingerprint reading systems of Android devices. The announcement was made this week during the Black Hat conference in Las Vegas (USA). Tao Wei and Zhang Yulong, the FireEye experts, were the authors of the discovery, as has the ZDNet site

Of the four types of identified attacks, there is one in particular -. Called “fingerprint sensor spying attack” – that is capable of taking fingerprints on a large scale, ie no finger passes the sensor may end up in the wrong hands. Among the models identified as vulnerable are the Samsung Galaxy S5 and the HTC One Max, which has now begun to receive updates software to correct such failure.

The main (and big) problem of the vulnerability is that a fingerprint, it can never be used safely once copied, since you can not delete or change, as is done with a pin Numeric or password. Experts recommend that users keep the Android operating system up to date and above all not to settle unauthorized applications (those that are outside, for example, the Google store).

According to experts, the system Touch Apple ID appears to be safe this failure, since the fingerprint is encrypted and stored in a different memory of where they are stored data and applications.

The biometric reading is increasingly common on mobile devices as well as in laptops and tablets . Digital printing is becoming more widespread, but are being studied new forms of identification that pass through the reading of different anatomical and physiological characteristics, such as the veins of the hands and the heart beat.
