They were discovered serious security flaws that can allow access to the data of some phones with the operating system Android . The four vulnerabilities or errors ( bug ) were found by researchers from Check Point company in a program ( software ) that runs in millions of devices using processors – called LTE . chipsets – manufactured by US company Qualcomm
some of the latest models of some brands of mobile phones that use these processors are the following:
- BlackBerry Priv
- blackphone 1
- blackphone 2
- Google Nexus 5X
- Google Nexus 6
- Google Nexus 6P
- HTC One
- HTC M9
- HTC 10
- LG G4
- LG G5
- LG V10
- New Moto X Motorola
- OnePlus One
- OnePlus 2
- OnePlus 3
- Samsung Galaxy S7
- Samsung S7 Edge
- Sony Xperia Z Ultra
If one of these four vulnerabilities are exploited by intruders or hackers , they can gain access to the devices and progressive access to user data.
the flaws were found in the software that deals with graphics and code that controls communication between the different processes running on the phone, says the BBC . However, so far there is no evidence that any of these vulnerabilities is known to the hackers .
“I’m sure we’ll see these vulnerabilities to be used in the next three to four months, “said Michael Shaulov, mobility product management head of Check Point the BBC. “It’s always a race to see who is the bug first, whether good or bad,” he said.
Check Point has delivered the information on failure security Qualcomm manufacturer, which in turn believes that managed to program the corrections ( patch ) to the errors found. Qualcomm has already deployed the solution to the problem to manufacturers of mobile phones in question.
No one knows for sure how many of the approximately 900 million potentially affected devices already have effectively had access to the necessary updates to resolve the security breach.
If you have one of the mobile phone models listed above can download the application created by Check Point, called QuadRooter Scanner, which checks if your phone is vulnerable and the patch have been or not installed with the automatic updates system.
Michael Shaulov also recommended to owners of devices that run the Android operating system that only unload applications from the official store (Google Play Store) to avoid being victims of malicious programs.
the company Qualcomm has not yet ruled on the issue.
