Maru OS offers Android and Linux experience (Debian) in one … – AndroidGeek

One of the trends we have seen in recent times is to try to offer an experience mobile and desktop integrated in one unit. The idea is to have a smartphone or tablet that turns a PC when connected to an external monitor with the device hardware serve basis.

Among the attempts to offer such a possibility to users are Ubuntu Unity OS Canonical, which makes a device Mobile running Ubuntu OS, a PC running a version desktop that operating system, as we have seen in the analysis of the BQ Aquaris M10 Ubuntu Edition. We also have Microsoft and its Continuum function that converts some devices with Windows Phone in 10 workplaces desktop Windows 10.

The latest attempt in bring that experience is based on the Android system and called Maru OS, developed by Preetam D’Souza who designed a slightly different approach from the other. While in other cases the phone and the PC essentially share the same operating system with different interfaces, Maru OS offers a mix of Android for smartphone with Debian Linux for the PC.

Similar to what happens in versions of Microsoft and Cannonical, the phone’s hardware as the internal memory, the processor or RAM are shared by the two operating systems, however it is important to note that we are even before two different software.

Maru OS makes it even more interesting to bring more innovation. This time unlike other ideas, there is the possibility of using both systems simultaneously, i.e., the phone may be connected to run as Android Debian Linux environment is also being used. Naturally, you need to pair a mouse and keyboard (bluetooth) with the smartphone in order to be able to control the environment desktop .

Not all roses, as there is drawback of the Android version of OS Maru still Lollipop, which already is becoming old man especially now that has left the Android 7 Nougat. Yet the biggest problem of this Maru OS is that currently only one Android device is supported, the Nexus 5, a phone released by Google in conjunction with LG in 2013.

The creator of Maru OS is now looking for new employees to bring this project to fruition, with main focus on more devices support. Since both the Android and Linux Debian systems are open source , there is a strong possibility that these constraints be overcome with the help of vast communities of the two OSs. Moreover Maru OS came in February this year and is also it a project open source .
