Microsoft released on Wednesday (8) Here the maps application, which works even without internet connection, for Android, Google’s operating system. Until then, only Windows Phone devices had access to the service.
The launch, however, occurs in a limited way, because for now only includes smartphones from Samsung’s Galaxy line, in the form of test. Microsoft did not say when other devices that run Android will receive the application.
The mapping service was developed by Nokia and is now part of Microsoft when American acquired the company’s mobile devices company Finnish for $ 7.8 billion in September 2013.
Here rivals Google Maps as a building tool route turn by turn, navigation and details about the traffic. One of the advantages over the competitor is able to be fully utilized in offline mode, while Google’s system allows some destinations and locations are saved. For this, however, the user has to download the maps on your device.
The Galaxy smartphones that will receive Here maps must be equipped with Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean) or higher, have at least 1 GB internal memory and be able to access the Samsung Galaxy Apps Store (See here).
