For most of us, Android is more than just an operating system open source, is a portal of services Google like Google Maps Google Play and many others. In fact, Android AOSP has no special Google services included by default. To this end, manufacturers will have to acquire a certification for those who can then use the company’s services.
Most Android devices are found in major markets certified by Google, but this is not necessarily the case in many emerging markets. The growth of Android devices AOSP goes far beyond the China , as new data indicate that up 30% of Android devices in several emerging markets are running open source Android without application officially certified by Google. ABI Research says 65 million handsets shipped globally in the second quarter of this year using the open-source version of Android, up from 54 million in the first quarter.
According to the information, Google is planning to fight the growth of Android AOSP in emerging markets so that it can more effectively push their more complete picture and provide a unified experience for Android users everywhere. Part of this involves the movement One Android , which offers cheaper devices with Google certification fast to new versions of the OS updates, but this is just the beginning. Reportedly, Google is working to simplify the process for smaller mobile manufacturers seeking to obtain such certification.
To help speed things up, Google says it is looking at the idea of partnering with ODMs as Foxconn Quanta Flextronics , producing smartphones for smaller companies, and sell their devices for India , Brazil China and many other markets.
It is not clear what Google intends to do to encourage both the DOSM and smaller Android manufacturers to pass By this certification, but it is a movement that (arguably) be in the best interest of the users of the system, as it would open the door for legal copies of Google Maps, Play and other important applications. Also, would also ensure that these handset makers would have to agree to certain requirements of “compatibility” and patterns in order to obtain certification.
