F-Secure announced the discovery of a new highly critical malware capable of stealing data, changing settings and leave devices vulnerable to attack. The virus, known as Dessert Strike, was discovered by the senior analyst at F-Secure, Zimry Ong in July this year.
The threat was found in devices like the Google Play and has the power to gather information such as phone model, manufacturer, version of Android on the device used, identification IMEI, device location and user information such as name and country of origin. The virus belongs to the family of malware and can also be known as Ropin, Leadbolt, Airpush or PotentiallyUnwanted.
Dessert Strike can be installed in the equipment through false advertising ads. When you open the device’s online store, the virus sends an alert notification to the signing of a fake system scan. When you activate the service, malware invades your system and lets you get any file from the infected machine.
According to experts at F-Secure, users with Android 4.2 can disable notifications for applications in the field “Manage Applications” available in the system and prevent infection.
