If you thought that Microsoft would that Cortana for Android to become mere adjunct compared to the Windows version, think again. The Android Central reported on Friday (23) that the latest update of Cortana for Android beta now hear commands when you call for it.

According to Android Central, as the 1.0.0.289 version you can answer that Cortana commanding to simply say “Hey Cortana” – something like the Google Now which accounts for “Ok Google” and to “Hey Siri” Apple in automatic modes. All you need to do is access the Cortana settings and make sure you enable the window “Hey Cortana.”

However, there are some limitations to the hands-free mode of Cortana Android. The Android Central says so “only works when the phone screen is on and unlocked or if you already have the application open,” but also notes that this is the case for Google Now and as many Android devices.

Currently, Cortana follows in its Public Beta and anyone can try it. Microsoft has yet to announce the release date of its official version.

The story behind the story

The presence of Cortana in Android may seem a little strange given Microsoft’s tradition of keeping the Windows platform. But the company has embraced increasingly other platforms under the tutelage of its CEO, Satya Nadella.

Under his direction, “mobile strategies and first cloud,” Microsoft is less focused on bringing users to your own platforms than it was in the past and, instead, is more focused on bringing its software where users are, regardless of operating system
