There is no need to say that the shortage in the Microsoft app store is its “Achilles heel” when it comes to their presence in the smartphone market. It has been announced that the App Store has reached the milestone of 1.3 million applications and the Play Store ended 2014 with 1:43 million application catalog , while the Windows Store has reached half a million.
Several sources are claiming that Microsoft is intending to emulate Android applications on Windows 10 . This same strategy was used in the BlackBerry 10 to solve the problem of scarcity in your store, even with an agreement with Amazon to be the official channel of distribution of Android apps. It is an action that may favor users who are afraid of moving platform due to the fact applications for various services are not available for OS from Redmond.
Also would be a comfortable solution for developers who prefer to clearly focus their efforts on Android and iOS. But if this will also be an advantage for Microsoft long-term own , is another reason for speculation.
We have followed the company’s aggressive efforts to make Windows 10 a system competitor, including the unification of platforms and technologies that will easier for developers to write applications that run on all supported platforms, including desktops, tablets and phones. It is a new attempt that could encourage developers to support Windows with native apps.
Considering this, if we really emulated Android applications on Windows 10, it may, as a side effect, dilute efforts to attract developers to the platform and surtir the opposite effect. After all, why develop native apps for Windows if they will be available from those that are written for Android, anyway?
Of course it’s too early to tell what will happen, or if the company already have some solution to this potential trap that they may fall, if we really see the applications of Play Store emulated.
In this regard, it remains to wait for the next builds, which should arrive in April.
