EU is already questioning Google partners on the charges … – TeK.sapo

The European Commission wants to know how Google’s relationship with partner manufacturers, particularly in terms of enforcing rules regarding the Android. The European body suspects that the American giant is having attitudes that jeopardize the competition rules.

writes The Wall Street Journal that the companies have received a more extensive questionnaire with questions about the relationship with Google’s Android and this is compulsory. This is not be the first set of questions sent by the EC to companies like Samsung, Sony, HTC or LG.

According to published information, the technology must accompany the responses of all possible documentation to justify the choices made and should, if possible, cover agreements established since 2007.

The European Commission has strongly suspect that Google is using the great popularity of Android to promote their own services – applications Drive, Maps, Chrome or YouTube – while that may be preventing the growth of services from partner companies.

One of the points of the research is also related to the fact that the Google install a pre-defined package of applications in order to minimize the fragmentation that exists in the Android operating system level itself. The EC wants to know how the manufacturers have dealt with this and what responses have had the giant of search engines.

The survey responses of European law must be delivered to the September 12, at which they begin to be assessed.

If there are clear indications that Google may be violating European competition rules, then it is expected that the EC continue to further investigation of the case. But this should never happen before taking can new commissioners, and the new case should already be handled by the successor to the current European Commissioner for privacy issues, Joaquín Almunia.
