NASA satellite with Android starts to send pictures from space - BR-Linux

Posted by João Fernando Costa Júnior (revista?espiritolivre · org):

“NASA said this week that his mini-satellite” PhoneSat “- assembled from units of the HTC Nexus One and Samsung Nexus S – began sending images of the Earth for the space agency.

The initiative, which feeds a new form of space exploration with extremely low costs, is part of an experiment called CubeSat Launch Initiative that incorporates consumer electronics in nanosatellites.

“During the short time that the ship was in orbit, we were able to demonstrate the ability of smartphones to act as satellites in space environment,” said Bruce Yost, program manager of NASA satellite technology. ” [Reference: revista.espiritolivre.org]
