Among many other innovations, Google announced during the event Google I / O 2013 three new APIs for developers to create location-aware applications for Android and without turning on GPS. The tools are already available and are especially useful for anyone who creates fitness services and location.
The first API is a system location via Google maps says it uses only 1% of the device’s battery – great news for those who have always wanted to add this function in applications, but left out for fear of the power consumption.
The second tool is a system geofencing, which can be translated as “virtual fences”. With it, developers can define up to a hundred different geographical areas by application – and activate certain actions when you get into one of them. Google said that this feature was one of the requests.

Finally, Activity Recognition is the API that could revolutionize the fitness applications that record sports activities. Using the accelerometer tablet or smartphone, it can determine whether you are walking, by car or on the bike.
