Patent war around Android can have days – TeK.sapo

At issue is the sale of 4000 patents that once belonged to Nortel and that when the company went bankrupt drove a sharp dispute between industry giants. Google was in the race but lost to Rockstar, a consortium led by Apple, which also includes companies such as Microsoft, BlackBerry, Sony Ericsson and which invested 4.5 billion dollars in the acquisition.

The companies agreed to now sell the portfolio for $ 900 million to RPX, which will license the patents to other organizations. According to a statement, will be licensed for a group of 30 companies, which includes Google or Cisco.

The agreement is seen as an important step to end the wars of patents involving Android, since several lawsuits accordingly involved Rockstar and intellectual property access restriction policy owned by the companies made up the consortium.

In this universe of patents are using technology as commonplace as Internet access, data network or navigation in documents, which have formed the basis of several lawsuits against companies such as Samsung, HTC and Huawei.
