iPhone Android x mapped around the world - HypeScience - Science is the big star of the real world

This map shows the geographical use of two devices today very common worldwide: iPhones and Andoids. It also features the use of Blackberry which has been gaining ground in the market considered.

map is interesting, as it covers a large part of our current culture, but we must look at it with some caution – this is not a complete map and scientific index based on what type of phone people use.

Instead, MacWright Tom and Eric Fischer used data geolocais people posting on Twitter and made a map for viewing. The result is that you will only see in this graph that users of these phones also have account and post them on the social network Twitter – but it’s still quite a number representative of the overall sample.

Even after excluding about 2.8 billion overlapping data, and MacWright Fischer still had 280 million unique locations to work on the map. iPhones are the red, the green Androids, Blackberries purples, and the rest is pink.

You can take a tour in depth by their own country, but globally, some things are very easy to understand. For example, generally, in any capital, the most central area has a higher density of iPhones and Androids of the outlying areas.

photo below, for example, shows the Greater São Paulo. Here, as in other major urban centers, it is possible to observe the trend indicated above: the most central area has a higher concentration of iPhones and Androids in more peripheral areas. Although the cause of this is not explicit, nor been studied, some assumptions can be made. For example, the question of purchasing power. Android devices are found in various price ranges, while iPhones are possibly the most expensive smartphones in our country. Thus, it may be that the population living in the most expensive city air can also buy the most expensive handsets – if that’s the case, people’s preference for acquiring device which is less relevant.

global map also shows some curiosities. For example, in Spain, there is almost no iPhones, Jakarta is a paradise Blackberry (incidentally, this seems to be the preferred device of this region of Asia). In Brazil, the largest concentration of smartphones, in general, is in the south and especially in the Southeast, followed by a good number of devices in the northeast.

Brazil

The highest concentrations of devices globally, are in the United States, much of Europe (of which Portugal and Spain have few iPhones and Androids UK has a few), and a region of Asia (Malaysia Indonesia and quite Blackberries, iPhones and Japan over Korea with many Androids).

Tour the map and find the rates of any region you want. If you find any interesting curiosity, share! [Gizmodo]
