Security Specialist Lookout says that users are more likely to be victims of “adware”

Android is the most popular mobile operating system market, and therefore the biggest target for cybercriminals. But figures released today by security firm Lookout show that some applications Store Google Play not only hide malicious code. Hide what they called the Lookout “adware.”

The company tested 200 000 applications and concluded that 6.5% of which are free hide ‘adware’, ie, are applications that show ads to users outside of your interface and without consent. The ‘adware’ can use the notifications, add icons to the home screen and collect personal user data.

Jeremy Linden, product manager at Lookout says that when an American installs Lookout on your Android smartphone has a 0.9% chance of having already installed adware. About a million Android devices adware downloaded last year in the U.S. alone, says the expert.


“Our aim is to eradicate the worst practices of unscrupulous advertising,” said Linden to the MIT Technology Review.
