In the case of iOS, although iPhone sales have grown 25.6% over the previous year, the increase was slower than the market in general and Apple’s share fell from 14.4% to 12.9%. The number of smartphones running Windows Phone shipped to retail increased 156% between the third quarter of last year and the same quarter this year.
Despite the strong growth, the Microsoft platform integrated only 9.5 million of equipment offered for sale, a figure that translates into a market share of 3.6%.More than 90% of phones with Windows Phone are manufactured by Nokia, whose division is currently in mobile phones process of acquisition by Microsoft.
The BlackBerry, on the contrary, saw their position deteriorate further, by sending only 4.5 million devices for retail, despite the introduction of the new system BlackBerry OS 10. The share fell from 4.1% to 1.7%.
Overall, the smartphone market grew by an average 39.9% between July and September. Globally, hit stores about 261 million phones during the quarter, 79 million more than in the same months of 2012. The average sale price for smartphone, meanwhile, fell 12.5 % in the quarter, to $ 317.Samsung maintains market leadership with regard to manufacturers, with a share of 31.4%, followed by Apple with 13.1%.
Huawei, Lenovo and LG complete this order, the remaining places in the top 5, with shares many nearby – respectively 4.8%, 4.7% and 4.6%.
