One Android: smartphones low cost program kicks off in India – TeK.sapo

In future consumers in India will be able to acquire smart phones Android One of the program: they are low-cost smartphones, hovering around $ 100, and that present medians specifications. These two factors are not enough however to define a new category of equipment: the big difference is in the care that Google will provide the equipment.

Micromax, Spice and Karbonn are the first three manufacturers to join the program. All devices are equipped with the latest version of Android in its purest state – without customization of companies that build the devices. And in the future will be those who will own Google account software updates.

In a way the Android Nexus One is equal to the program, but at a level much more affordable price. The goal is to accelerate the adoption of smart phones – and Google services – in expanding markets.

And to ensure software updates, Google is also to avoid that in the near future Android will fall a further fragmentation. Other low-cost mobile phones sold in the market end up being “overlooked” by the makers of software level.

The new Android One all have similar specs – 4.5-inch screen, quad-core processor, 1GB of RAM, support for two SIM cards and FM radio.

This is also a strategy that Google decided to choose to fight the growth of Windows Phone in emerging markets. In the specific case of India and according to The Verge, the Android One is a great weapon to attack Google’s second largest market mobile worldwide.

After India is expected that Android One program comes to Asian countries like Indonesia and the Philippines.
