Android, Google’s operating system has increased its dominance in the United States within the smartphone segment in 2013. According to research by Kantar Worldpanel ComTech, in the first quarter of this year, 49.3% of smart phones sold in the U.S. market were Android because iOS, Apple had the share of 43.7%.
In other markets also important, the dominance of Android is even greater. In Spain, the number is 93.5%, a percentage overwhelming. Already in Germany the figure drops to 73.6%, but still with plenty of representation and, in China, the percentage is 69.4%.
Apple, according to research led in the first quarter only in Japan, with a market share of 49.2% to 45.8% for Android.Windows Phone also growing, according to the survey data. In North American environment, Windows has increased its share from 3.7% a year ago to 5.6%, Kantar said. Windows got 10.9% of smartphone sales in Italy, 7.2% in France and 7.0% in Britain. “As iOS and Android continue to struggle to record the biggest selling smartphone operating systems, we have seen that Windows has grown steadily over the past year and has now reached its highest number of sales so far,” said analyst Kantar Mary-Ann Parlato.
